Carrasco National Park is the most important park in Villa Tunari. It has an area of 622.000 hectares and covers ecosystems than start al 4717 meters a.s.l. (15 475 feet a.s.l.)to 280 meters a.s.l. (918 feet a.s.l.). More than 400 species of vertebrates and between 3000 and 5000 species of plants have been registered in Carrasco Park.

Carrasco Eco-Turistic Park

It is one of the greatest National Parks in Bolivia. Besides being the home of native communities, this park hosts a great diversity of wildlife due to the multiple eco-systems and micro-climates. From the high plains to the tropical forest, there are many oportunities for adventure. Long hikes (6 hours) can take you through paths filled with orchids, monkeys, insects, walking trees, bats or the interesting blind bird (Guacharo), the list is long. You can also take the 4 days 3 nights "Walk through the clouds" tour, hike from the rain forest to the puna grasslands and experience an incomparable set of landscapes and views.

Machia Ecological Conservation Park

The Machia park was Inti Wara Yassi's first refuge and houses around 700 animals of over 30 species. The vast majority of these have been rehabilitated and are free to live in the park in natural societies without confinement. It is located on a hilly area close to the town of Villa Tunari. It offers a set of paths that guide you through the parks features on a 3 hours hike. You'll find natural waterfalls, monkeys, fantastic views, birds and some other animals.

Geography

It is located in the Chapare Province of the Department of Cochabamba. 160 km east from the city of Cochabamba and 300 km west from the city of Santa Cruz.
The region includes part of the Andes mountains range, a sub-andean region and Amazonic rain forest. These combination provides amazing landscapes with high mountain peaks, canyons, deep valleys, waterfalls, mountain rivers and rich vegetation. 

Altitude

Villa Tunari's altitude varies. However most of the activities take place at 300 meters above see level (985 ft)

Climate

The climate is humid and warm. Temperatures range from 24 to 40 degrees Celsius (75 °F to 100 °F) in the summer.

How to get there?

Currently the only access to Villa Tunari is with ground transportation from Cochabamba or Santa Cruz.

Economy

The local economy is based in the turism industry, coca leaf crops, wood and agriculture. This region offers outstanding quality in produce like a variety of bananas, oranges, palm tree heart, pineapples, avocados and other exotic fruits. The mining and hidrocarbon industries are also having a relevant impact. In recent years big efforts were made to launch the agroindustry and to create open markets for the products.

Fauna and Flora

It is estimated that more than 3,000 species of plants live in this region, from which only 600 have been catalogued. Among the featured species of flowers are 200 different types of orchids. Among the rich animal life you'll find a variety of boas, toucans, monkies, lizards and even the andean bear and llamas. More than 700 species of birds are estimated to inhabit this region.
